HOW TO REMOVE AN AIRLOCK -Pool maintenance

An airlock is simpy air that is stuck inside the pump. The pump is turning but instead of pushing out water it's moving air inside itself. The following are some steps you can take yourself to remove the air lock.

Note:

Note: It's important NOT to run the spa if you have an airlock. If you turn on the spa and you hear the pumps running but no water comes out, turn the pump off immediately.  There is a chance that you might run the pump "dry" and actually break it.If you suspect an "airlock" (you can hear the pump running but see not water circulating), follow the steps below.

Safety in swimming pools and spa’s

Swimming pools and spa's can be hazardous places if they are not well managed. The following details highlight some of the hazards and risks that might exist at your swimming pool or spa pool. They are by no means exhaustive and will vary depending on your own particular environment.

Main types of hazards

Bacteria
Pathogenic bacteria and Protozoa if allowed to grow and multiply in swimming pools and spa pools can lead to disease. These include:
• Cryptosporidia
• Giardia
• Legionella
• Pseudamonas, and
• E coli

Step 1

1.Turn the circuit breaker (main power switch) off for about 10 seconds2.Some spa models have a "bleeder valve" located near the filter cartridge. Locate and open that3. Turn the circuit breaker back on4. Let air and water come out of the bleeder valves, until it's only water = air lock is gone.

.

Chemicals
Handling chemicals can cause burns and skin irritation and certain chemicals when mixed can lead to dangerous gases being produced, which could cause asphyxiation.

Step 2 - If your spa doesn't have a bleeder valve (most spas don't)

1. Turn the circuit breaker (main power switch) off for about 10 seconds.
2  Turn it back on again,
3. Turn on the jets (If you have more than one jet button, turn them on
one at a time) to verify that water is being pushed.
